Does Fruit Juice Cause Childhood Obesity? - September 9th, 2009

Fruit is a great food you can eat when you are in need of certain vitamins and minerals. What about fruit juice? Well, if you juice your own fruit you are going to reap many of those healthy benefits. If you are buying fruit juice from the store you are going to want to make sure you are reading the labels. I’ve been fooled in the past by seeing a large 100% sign on the bottle or container. I purchase the juice, get home, look closer and realize that the 100% was referring to vitamin C.

When I look closer at the actual percentage of real juice, I find that there is only 10% juice. I read further and see that the main ingredient is high fructose syrup, corn syrup, and sugar. That, my friends, is not healthy. No wonder the juice was on sale, or cheaper than the others. There’s no fruit in it hardly. I am now very vigilant when it comes to buying fruit juice. And, I only buy it when I don’t have time to juice my own. One of my favorite fruit juices to make is lemon and grapefruit with a couple of apples and a few oranges. It’s heaven!
