Mediterranean Diet - September 3rd, 2009

Have you ever heard of the Mediterranean Diet? One of the main ideas is that of portion control. I don’t know if you have noticed how most Americans eat, but from what I have observed, we eat way too much. I was at a restaurant the other day for lunch and knowing that my stomach has shrunk from trying to eat less, I decided to share my meal. I was utterly amazed at how large the entree was. My friend and I shared the meal and still had leftovers.

Three people could have easily shared that one entree. Back to the Mediterranean Diet, another thing that is important is eating more vegetables and less meat. The following vegetables are consumed most frequently by the Mediterranean people: lentils, capers, tomatoes, eggplant, broccoli, white beans, spinach, and mushrooms. I traveled to Greece a few years back and it’s true they definitely have a lot of vegetables available to eat at all meals. It was interesting to see that  people actually eat tomatoes for breakfast. I’ve been able to lose ten pounds already just by watching my portion size and drinking lots of water. Don’t forget to eat your vegetables.
